Turnigy Trackstar 80a Turbo Manual

I have the firestorm 10t, converted it to brushless with turnigy trackstar combo, I got the highest kv available, the esc is 80a, so far everything runs sweet, and the temperatures are very good, I got the waterproof model so the programme card didnt work I had to buy the programme box, dont know if it was a one off or set like this from stock but it was very sluggish running from standing, then it would kick in and go, thought it had bad cogging until I got the programme box and found that the top speed and punch are set very low. Once this was changed it ran perfectly on a 2s, will be getting 3s soon so cant comment on that just yet. Overall very pleased with the combo and plenty of speed for the firestorm, and at a good price. So what is Turbo? Well simply put - Turbo is a short duration burst of top end motor RPM and power - best used sparingly, it is similar in effect to KERS on the current Formula 1 cars! I purchased one of these 80A speed controls from a fellow racer and have used it with excellent results in my 2wd Traxxas Slash with a 13.5 sensored motor in dirt oval racing. I have even managed to take a TQ and Amain win. When I bought a second 2wd Traxxas Slash I placed an order for the same ESC but this time brand new from HK. Delivery was very slow and the tracking I paid for stopped working once the item reached my country.

When I finally received my ESC, I was disappointed to find that it contained just the ESC and a few loose pieces of wire. There was no manual or instruction sheet on how to configure this ESC and the documents provided online are poor and one is for a Hextronik speed control and not the Hobbyking which is very odd.

The only way to adjust any of the features is with the optional program box or some USB software that when I checked does not exist. If you plan to buy this ESC, make sure you also buy the program box or you will not be able to change any of the settings. Overall, the ESC works well and the price point is certainly attractive.

The difference in price between this ESC and more well known brands is not that much and I think that HK could at least include a small setup sheet to at least get users started in blinky mode. This ESC could be perfect for that price, but it isn't, because of missing an important function, as most other sensored brushless ESC's have: Reverse Rotation There is NO Reverse Rotation function available, so you must be sure BEFORE buying this ESC that your motor runs the 'right' direction.
